Whispers in the Wilderness is an opportunity for women to journey into the wilderness and spend time in solitude. It is a time for reflection, introspection and self-discovery; a time for being at pace with the ancient rhythms; and for exploring the mysteries of the wilderness within and beyond.
We will provide structure and support for the experience. As well as give you tools to ensure comfort and safety; and to kindle awareness and self-discovery.
The weekend begins on a Saturday. Participants are asked to meet in the A & P parking lot on Arthur Street at 8:45 am. (Closest to the corner of Arthur and James). We will head out from there. You will be dropped off there on Monday by 5:30 pm. Saturday- Saturday will involve travel to the base camp, base camp set-up, acclimatization activities, and solo preparations. (The trip will involve a drive and a small amount of paddling to get to our base camp- no canoeing experience is necessary. We will cover the basics when we are there.) Sunday- Group breakfast, final solo preparations, and off to your solo sites. Monday- Group celebration brunch, sharing and debriefing of solo experiences, and travel back to Thunder Bay. OUR INSTRUCTORS come with many years of paddling and wilderness experience. They have a respect and passion for the outdoors, which they are eager to share. They believe in learning through experience, so come prepared to get your feet wet and your hands dirty. YOU BRING your sleeping bag, pad and personal stuff- we provide the rest of the gear and food. (Sleeping bags and sleeping pads may be rented if needed). Recommended clothing list will be provided.
