Women on the Water provides opportunities for women to learn and develop their paddling and camp-craft skills, while enjoying the company of other women and the beauty of our Northwestern Ontario waters and woods.

 


 

 
 


3-Day SEA KAYAKING ADVENTURE

TBA --Rossport Islands, ON

Come explore our inland sea.  Home to the largest archipelago of islands found anywhere on Lake Superior, Rossport offers rugged beauty, incredible bird life and a protective harbour perfect for a sea kayaking journey. With a focus on skills and safety, Element of Adventure will guide you on a weekend of connection, exploration and wonder.

WEEKEND OVERVIEW:

The adventure will begin the evening of Thursday, July 10, where we will spend some time getting to know each other and the kayaks.  After that, we meet again Friday, July 11 at 8:00 am.  Participants are asked to meet in the Safeway parking lot across from Country Fair Plaza at 7:45 am.  (Closest to the corner of Red River and the Expressway).  We will head out from there.  You will be dropped off there on Sunday by 5:30 pm.

Thursday- 6:00 to 9:00 pm (Boulevard Lake) Meet and greet and spend some time learning the basics of sea kayaking.

Friday- Friday we will travel to Rossport, get on the water and paddle to our campsite, set-up for the night, relax and enjoy the area and each other. 

Saturday- Paddle and explore the islands.

Sunday- Sunrise paddle to Rossport, where we will be pampered with a lovely lunch and sightseeing before heading back to Thunder Bay.

COST:  $425.00 (includes food, equipment and transportation)

SKILLS TAUGHT will include such things as kayaking, low impact camping, wilderness cooking, camp set up, navigation and nature awareness.

3-Day CANOEING EXPEDITION

August 14, 15 & 16, 2009

This is an introductory experience designed for women with adventurous spirits (but limited time).  The days will be a combination of instruction, paddling and play (with time to sit back, relax and savour).

WEEKEND OVERVIEW:
The weekend begins on Friday, August 15 at 8:00 am.  Participants are asked to meet in the A & P parking lot on Arthur Street at 7:45 am.  (Closest to the corner of Arthur and James).  We will head out from there.  You will be dropped off there on Sunday by 5:30 pm.

Friday-  Friday we will travel to our put-in, get on the water, practice some strokes and head off to our campsite.  Once there, we will set-up for the night, relax and enjoy the area and each other.

Saturday- Will be a day of paddling and play.

Sunday- We will enjoy a farewell paddle as we head to our final destination.  Here we will load up and travel to town.

COST:  $350.00 (includes food, equipment and transportation)

OUR INSTRUCTORS
Our instructors come with many years of paddling and wilderness experience.  They have a respect and passion for the outdoors, which they are eager to share.  They believe in learning through experience, so come prepared to get your feet wet and your hands dirty. 

YOU BRING
You bring your sleeping bag, mat and personal stuff- we provide the rest of the gear and food. (Sleeping bags and sleeping pads may be rented if needed).  Recommended clothing list will be provided.

SAFETY
Element of Adventure is committed to delivering quality, safe workshops which meet the needs and abilities of all participants.  For this reason we ask you to take some responsibility for your health during the course.  Applicants can download a copy of a Confidential Medical History and Release Form. 

REGISTRATION:
To reserve a spot, please forward a cheque for the course amount made out to Element of Adventure, along with the Confidential Medical History and Release Form  as soon as possible.
